With the first month of 2020 now complete most people will have already started entering horses. I hope that the new BE entries system is providing a good experience for all.
Anna and I have been fortunate to spend a little time in Australia visiting family. We arrived unsure of what we would find following the devastating fires here. Whilst we have not visited the fire areas, the untold damage and devastation is very obvious. During our first week there were dust storms bringing clouds of dust from the drought stricken areas hundreds of miles away. The huge thunderstorm bought red rain that was full of dirt, leaving a layer of sludge across the capital. Roads and pavements were covered in a red film, swimming pools rendered un useable. The following day the dog bowls were full of a red sludge.
The fires continue to burn in some places, Canberra under threat this weekend again. I am told over 40% of the bushland in Victoria and New South wales has been destroyed with the obvious hideous results on flora and fauna. Many people will not have proper access to their properties for months as teams work round the clock clearing fallen and dangerous trees across roads and tracks
It has been a really sobering time catching up with those effected by these horrific fires.
We will shortly be back in the UK ready for the impending season. The team in the office have been cracking on with plans, especially Thoresby which is taking up much time. It will be a new event for us all and we ask that you ensure that you know how and where to access the event. Everyone will be new, including us, so please make sure that you give yourself plenty of time to learn your way about and walk courses. Owners will be able to park in the lorry park, we will provide a shuttle service for them to get to and from the showground, a short 300m walk. Stabling is available on site, this will be limited this year so please ensure that you book this with your entry so you get in. The old stables a short walk from the box park will provide evening meals and bar plus entertainment for those staying on site.
Once the last of the winter weather leaves us we will be setting out fences, finishing the ground work and cracking on. It will be a fast and furious 6 weeks that will hopefully climax in a great event. We look forward to seeing you there
