3rd place: French, Piggy. 2nd place: Todd, Mark. 1st place: Taylor, Izzy
“It’s Taylor in front, Izzy Taylor is just ahead of Mark Todd… This is so close, can she do it? Yes she can! Izzy Taylor wins the 2017 Grantham Cup! The first British winner in 5 years!”
With a family of equestrian lovers, it was natural for Izzy Taylor to follow in the family footsteps. She started riding at a young age, which set her in good stead to become one of the country’s best young riders. After turning down a place at university to study sports science, Izzy decided to follow a career in horses and eventing.
Izzy had a number of 3rd and 4th place finishes in various CIC3* events under her belt before arriving at Belton last year. After a high-tempo, closely fought race Izzy just pipped 2014 winner Mark Todd to the post, securing a Grantham Cup win for herself and her horse KBIS Starburst. The title made Izzy the first British Grantham Cup winner since Sarah Cohen in 2012.
We can’t wait to see Izzy back in action at Belton, but can she go on and do the double? Vittoria Panizzon is currently the only rider in the 12 year history of the event to win the Cup twice.
