Sporting Choice

Local brand Sporting Choice have exhibited at Belton Horse Trials since the year 2017 Grantham Cup winner Izzy Taylor was born. The event was very different in 1983, and wasn’t ran by the Bede Events team, but luckily for us, Sporting Choice have always supported Belton. We caught up with Sue from Sporting Choice ahead of their 35th year at Belton.

What can we expect to see on your stand at Belton this weekend? “My husband Mark and I will have a range of country-wear for men, ladies & children, as well as a range of practical footwear by Ariat, Musto, Alan Paine, Laksen, Sealskin & Equetech.”

Can you give us a sneak peek at any bargains you’ll have on offer? “We’ll have a range of discounted Ariat boots available. We will, however, only have one of each size so it’s a first come, first served opportunity.”

What are your 5 top product picks? “Ariat products must be first on my list – they’re so practical and comfortable/ All their technology goes into the shape of the "foot" of their boots to support the arch & provide a shock absorbing footbed. Gone are the days of needing made to measure tall riding boots which took months to wear in and gave you cramp putting on & taking off with being totally uncomfortable to wear off the horse . Now Ariat provide boots that can be worn straight away for competition or every day wear

Laksen is my favourite Danish supplier of Mens & Ladies Countrywear, using the finest scottish tweeds in waterproof stylish coats. Their attention to detail and quality stands out. We do have some excellent reductions on end of line tweeds.”

Alan Paine – a local Nottinghamshire based firm – are another favourite. Their Fleece Gilet retails at £79.95 and is stocked in a variety of colours and sizes.

The Musto Training Jacket is perfect for riding. It has all over stretch fabric to allow movement, is waterproof and windproof, and has a warm fleece lining.

Chrysalis excel in producing seriously waterproof garments - my own is now in its 14th year & is still waterproof! They make our own Ladies Loden Tweed coat with hacking vents. It’s waterproof, windproof & warm, with 5% cashmere.

Which riders are you excited to see at Belton this weekend?“There are a lot of riders I’m excited to see. Mary King, Richard Jones, Oliver Townend, Izzy Taylor, Piggy French. Lucinda Fredericks is a long-time family friend and is our daughter’s Godmother. Ros Canter is another rider who we have followed throughout her career and her family are customers of ours. There are a lot of good riders.”

Who are you backing to win the Grantham Cup? “I would like to see Richard Jones win the Grantham Cup. I admire his dedication to the sport. He continuously brings on young horses, and I like his riding & horsemanship.”

Catch Sporting Choice at Belton from Friday 13th – Sunday 15th April at stand #10.
